Oak Bluffs police and a state police detective unit are investigating a stabbing that occurred in Oak Bluffs late Sunday night, according to releases from both agencies.

Oak Bluffs police have charged a 16-year-old male from Connecticut in connection with a stabbing that occurred in Ocean Park on June 28. According to a press release Tuesday, the juvenile has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to murder.

Just in time for peak season, the Oak Bluffs police department has promoted three police officers while hiring another officer to join the ranks.

Oak Bluffs native Nicholas Curelli was named sergeant last month after sailing through a grueling promotional process, police chief Erik Blake said.

Michael Cotrone, a former army captain, was sworn in as a full-time Oak Bluffs police officer on Wednesday. Mr. Cotrone graduated from the Plymouth Police Academy last Friday where he was president of his class.

Erik G. Blake, chief of police for Oak Bluffs, has been elected to serve as the president of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association.

Mr. Blake is the first Vineyard chief to lead the Grafton-based organization. He will be sworn in on Dec. 12 in Falmouth, and will serve for one year.
