Blankets and beach chairs dotted Ocean Park by early afternoon on Saturday as fireworks revelers marked their spots for the annual display.

Coolers unpacked, sweatshirts donned, the crowd listened to old favorites, marches and standards played by the Vineyard Haven Band while they waited for the big show.

After the lights in Ocean Park went dark, the sky over Nantucket Sound was ablaze with pyrotechnics of all colors and variety.

Beautiful Fair, great journalism and photojournalism all round; I wish I could have been there! The history and the variety, the people and animals and everything that goes into a classic Agricultural Fair — and it was a lovely example of community collaboration, a wondrous and unpretentious grassroots multimedia art work of, by, and for the people, and not grossly oversized, either, as too many of them are nowadays: this is human scale done right. Thank you so much for this, Vineyard Gazette and Martha's Vineyard, for being yourselves.
