A man suffered minor injuries at an Edgartown house fire Thursday night.

Firefighters from across the Island responded to the fire that broke out at a home on Pennywise Path shortly after 8 p.m. One person was at the home at the time and was brought to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, according to Edgartown fire chief Alex Schaeffer.

Fire crews from Oak Bluffs, West Tisbury and Edgartown helped extinguish the fire, with West Tisbury contributing water tankers in the absence of a fire hydrant in the neighborhood, Chief Schaeffer said.

The fire started outside the building and made its way up side of the house. The home sustained significant water damage and some structural damage to the roof.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
