A spring explosion of color and flowers comes to Featherstone Center for the Arts this weekend. The fifth annual Garden Party and Fashion Show under the tent, where everything will be coming up in fives, is on Saturday, May 10, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The party also recognizes featured designer Lorraine Parish’s 35 years of fashion design. All models for this year’s show will be 50 or older. Models will wear the latest creations by Ms. Parish and designers from Once in a Blue Moon, Bananas, Sun Dog and Keren Tonneson will be showcased. Jewelry by Island designers Marie Allen, Ronni Simon and Eleanore Stanwood will complete their ensembles. Marla Blakely takes her third turn directing the fashion show.

The garden party falls on an anniversary year, which means special treatment all around. Featherstone executive director Ann Smith said they’re going to “shake things up a bit” this time around. Rather than tea and sandwiches as in past years, this party features sparkling lemonade, along with artisanal cheese plates, deviled eggs, mini skewers and delicious desserts. Tables will be decorated with colorful paper flower centerpieces and a kaleidoscope of color welcomes everyone at the tent’s entrance.

There are prizes to be won for best and most creative hats.

Fashion is only half of the fun, though. Holly Alaimo serves as guest curator for The Art of Flowers show. Partygoers will get a preview of the show, which opens on Mother’s Day in the Virginia Weston Besse Gallery. Flowers are represented in every medium: pastels, acrylics, oils, watercolors, fiber art, ceramics and photography. Typically 70 to 80 Island artists participate in this show, which means each artist can only submit one piece.

Tickets are $40 per person. For more information, call 508-693-1850 or visit featherstoneart.org.
