Sea View Hotel and railroad
President Grant and his wife had a reception at the Sea View House on Saturday evening last, which was a most fitting close to the festivities on the Vineyard. The supper was of the choicest kind. The beauty and wealth of the Bluffs were out in full force and dancing was indulged in until 12 o’clock. The time consumed in the reception was an hour, during which one thousand persons shook hands with President. The dining hall in which the reception took place, always pleasant, presented an exceedingly fine appearance. The walls were gracefully festooned with bunting and flags, and various devices appropriate to the occasion. The ladies added a grace and refinement to the occasion that can hardly be described, the result being an endless array of beauty and fashion, that has never been equaled before at the Vineyard.

The reception was successful in every particular, and the dance which followed it was the finest that has occurred this year. The manager of the affair, including Mrs. Brownell of the Sea View, were indefatigable in their attempt to render the comfort of everybody complete. Upon leaving the reception party, the distinguished guests proceeded to a small dining room in the rear of the hotel, and partook of a colation, and a few minutes’ informal conversation, after which they were quietly driven home. In all respects this was the most successful reception that the President has held since his arrival at the Vineyard. The police arrangements were excellent; there was not the least particle of ill-feeling engendered by the crush, and everybody left for home well satisfied with their evening’s pleasure.
