Acclaimed novelist and journalist Ward Just died on Dec. 19 after a struggle with Lewy body dementia. He was 84 years old.


The sign outside State Road Restaurant last Wednesday night said Go Bruins. The parking lot was overflowing and yet upon entering there was no hockey to be found. Instead, there was a crowd of people talking about writing and literature.

These events happened a while back, when the war was not quite a war, more a prelude to a war. Their army was called a guerrilla force. Our army was called a Military Assistance Command.


Acclaimed author Ward Just visits the Vineyard Haven Library at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. He will read from and discuss his upcoming novel.


The prolific and critically-acclaimed Island author Ward Just has a new novel, Exiles in the Garden, which he will sign and discuss tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore in Vineyard Haven.


It's usually not a good thing when an interview ends in
bloodshed, but an exception will be made for Ward Just, who was still
nursing his wounds from a battle with a wicker basket when this reporter
left his West Tisbury home one morning this week.
