Edgartown town administrator James Hagerty said his marine tours in Iraq were great training for leading his town during a pandemic.

Veterans Day on the Vineyard will look different this year as the traditional parade down Lake avenue in Oak Bluffs has been cancelled.

On Veterans Day, the Steamship Authority will provide free tickets to active service members and veterans, in what is now an annual event.


The Veterans Day march through downtown Oak Bluffs was filled with the sound of bagpipes playing homage to those who served.

Veterans Day is today, and Islanders join others around the country in observing the national holiday. A parade begins at 10:45 this morning in Oak Bluffs. Earlier, flags go up along the Avenue of Flags in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven.
