The traditional end of summer Herreshoff Cup Race included a twist this year, with the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club competing in the race for the first time and playing host.
Clear skies and fair seas but not much wind met the 66 sailing teams that set out Saturday in the Edgartown Yacht Club’s annual ‘Round-the-Island race, a Vineyard tradition since 1938.

The Edgartown Yacht Club broke ground — or more accurately broke wharf — last week on a project to renovate the historic clubhouse.

The Edgartown Yacht Club will host the championships beginning Sept. 5, a competitive regatta.

New races and new venues highlight the upcoming summer of competitive sailing on Martha’s Vineyard.

Plagued by light air, Saturday’s Round the Island race finished less than halfway round the Island. Only 13 of 56 entrants were able to finish.
