This year’s Gifts of Art show and sale at the Carnegie in Edgartown opened Thursday with a reception for 10 local painters whose smaller-scale works are sized and priced for gift-giving.

In a ceremony well attended by donors, volunteers and curious Islanders, the Vineyard Trust dedicated and opened the Carnegie Saturday morning.

The Carnegie, the newly rebranded name for the old Carnegie Library on North Water street in Edgartown, is set for a grand reopening next month.

The Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust will now be known as Vineyard Trust.

The new Edgartown Library is finished and the shelves have arrived. But what of the historic Carnegie building that will be left behind?
