The Vineyard Haven and West Tisbury libraries have been named “star” libraries in an annual national rating process conducted by the Library Journal. Only eight libraries in Massachusetts and 256 libraries throughout the United States were given the star rating, out of a possible 7,513 libraries.

Vineyard Haven Library Awarded Civil War Grant

The Vineyard Haven Public Library received a $3,000 grant from the American Library Association (ALA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to host Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War, a five-part reading and discussion series. The library is one of 65 public libraries nationwide receiving grants to host the series which will encourage participants to consider the legacy of the Civil War and emancipation.

Israel Talk at the Vineyard Haven Library

In 2010, Rabbi Caryn B. Broitman spent a five-month sabbatical living in Israel with her family. On Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. she shares her experiences during a talk at the Vineyard Haven Public Library.

Rabbi Broitman has served the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center since 2003. She is a graduate of Harvard University, and was ordained as rabbi in 1991.
