Genevieve (Perry) Rogers, 95, a lifelong resident of Oak Bluffs, died peacefully at her home on June 13. She was predeceased by her husband of nearly 55 years, Everett.

Gen was a homemaker who raised five children while helping her husband start their home business, Rogers Freight and Trucking, in its early years. When her children were grown Gen had the time to indulge in some of her favorite crafts, especially knitting children’s and baby sweaters and Barbie clothes. She sold many of the crafts at the Island senior center. She also sold her work at craft fairs on the Cape with her daughters.

Before her husband’s death in 1989, Gen and Everett enjoyed spending many winters at their retirement condominium in Dania, Fla., for a number of years.

Happily, she was able to remain in her home while her health was failing, through the generous support from her daughter and full-time caregiver, Mary Ellen Rogers, and her other surviving children, James Rogers and his wife, Sylvia, Jerome Rogers and his wife, Susan, all of Oak Bluffs, Alita Zalgenas and her husband, Benjamin, of Sandwich, and Susan Absten and her husband, Cecil, of Leon, W. Va. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Her graveside service was held on Saturday, June 18, 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Vineyard avenue in Oak Bluffs.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Visiting Nursing Association, P.O. Box 399, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568. Arrangements are under the care of Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
