Two Steamship trips were canceled Thursday on the Vineyard route after one of the ferries had a mechanical breakdown.

The M/V Nantucket had a failure of a reduction gear pressure switch Thursday night, according to Steamship general manager Bob Davis. Once diagnosed, the ferry's 6:30 p.m. trip to the Island and 7:30 p.m. trip to Woods Hole were canceled so the vessel could be repaired in Falmouth.

No vehicles that were booked on the Nantucket were left at the end of the evening, as space was made on the lift decks of the M/V Island Home, Mr. Davis said.
