Mars and Moon

A bright gibbous moon appears close to the red planet Mars tonight. The two rise together and can be easily seen after 9 p.m. The later you look, the higher the two appear.
Both are in the zodiacal constellation Taurus, a constellation we associate with autumn and winter.

If you haven't seen Mars in a while, you'll be impressed. The planet has grown considerably in brightness in a short time.

The planet is 65 million miles away and by the end of the month it will be a close 58.

Change is fast. Mars will be closest to the Earth in early December, only 38.6 million miles away.
