Elizabeth Whelan is partnering once again with the Vineyard Haven Library to offer drawing classes this spring and summer, this time via Zoom. The classes are free and will be held every Wednesday beginning April 21 and continuing through Sept. 1.
Elizabeth says: “This year we’re focusing on drawing, with an emphasis on techniques and demonstrations. There will be opportunities to draw alongside me as well as projects you can do on your own. As always, there is no need to show your work! So no matter your skill level, feel comfortable taking part and trying new approaches. Topics will be addressed for two weeks in a row, allowing me to go in-depth and follow-up on your questions. And there’s no need to buy supplies; most techniques can be applied to all drawing media so you can draw along for the whole summer with just pencils and paper, or whatever you have on hand.”
Contact Anne Mcdonough at the Vineyard Haven Library or Elizabeth at erwhelan@gmail.com to register and receive the Zoom link.
Things are picking up ever so slightly at Slip Away Farm. I seeded our leeks last week and plan on beginning a few of the early flowers this week. The greenhouse tomatoes will be next. Our seedling house is unheated, so we usually wait until the last week in March or the first week of April to begin seeding in earnest. I find that anything started before then tends to grow so slowly that it catches up to the next plantings, so I have learned to be patient. The greenhouse packed from corner to corner with seedling trays is always a welcome sight, and a sign that spring is nearly here.
You can sign up now for our 2021 Slip Away CSA shares on our website slipawayfarm.com. We have vegetable and flower shares still available and would love to have you join. Sign up now to receive a weekly supply of vegetables and flowers from the field, all grown right here on Chappy. In the hopes of making our produce affordable to all, we offer a sliding scale share price. You can learn more on our website.
The Chappy Community Center hosts weekly yoga sessions with Jason Mazar-Kelly on Sunday mornings at 8:30. You can join in person or virtually. Sign up on the CCC website.
For anyone with young children, the Edgartown Library children’s window is worth a visit. Elise, the children’s librarian, has lots of craft bags available and books line the window for little ones to make their selections. This month is Women’s History Month and the children’s room is celebrating weekly craft bags every Wednesday featuring a different influential woman and her impact on history.
