Crescent Moon and Venus

On Monday morning, well before the sun rises there is a treat. A thin crescent moon appears underneath the bright planet Venus. The two are in the zodiacal constellation Cancer. There is no way you will miss these two bright objects hanging together in the sky.

Venus is a pretty sight alone, if you could grab a powerful telescope and look at it. Venus is in the gibbous phase, almost half phase. The planet is 93 million miles away, about the same distance from us as the sun.

On Tuesday morning, before sun rise, the crescent moon appears even thinner and lower in the eastern sky. The moon is in the zodiacal constellation Leo, a constellation we associate with spring.
The moon appears low in our evening sky only four days later, by the end of next week., 2020.
