On Friday, May 25, to commemorate Memorial Day Weekend, children at grammar schools around the Island will take part in the annual March to the Sea rituals, carrying flowers to the water’s edge and tossing them into the sea to remember and honor those who gave their lives for the country.
In Tisbury, students leave the school at 12:30 p.m. and march to Owen Park. Across the Island, in Edgartown, students leave the school at 1 p.m. and march to Memorial Wharf. And up-Island, the Chilmark School students gather at 9 a.m. at Station Menemsha and walk to Dutcher Dock.
In case of inclement weather, ceremonies will take place in the school gymnasiums.
