The Wondertwins are back! If you don’t know what that means, let David White, artistic director of the Yard, shed some light on the identical twin dancers, Billy and Bobby McClain: “They are keepers of a certain hip-hop flame that remembers the roots of it, and of course the roots of hip-hop were in the music and the rebelliousness of the street in the late 1970s and the 1980s.”

So be prepared to take a journey back in time, forward in time and into the heart of time as the dance-duo returns to the Vineyard stage on Saturday, March 10 at the Performing Arts Center at the regional high school.

The performance on Saturday is made up of three separate pieces: Broadway to Hip-Hop, Sounds of Movement, and L.OV.E. The soundtrack ranges from Busta Rhymes and KRS One, to Sammy Davis Jr., and even poetry from Maya Angelou and Nina Simone.

Billy and Bobby McClain started dancing at eight years old, imitating the dancers on Soul Train and performing for family and friends around South Boston, where they grew up. At 10 years old they won their first dance competition, judged by Kurtis Blow. From there it was on to a professional street dance crew, and opening up for concerts featuring Run-D.M.C., and LL Cool J.

As adults the duo has performed at venues around the world, and are six-time winners of Showtime at The Apollo Theatre.
