Both tennis teams and the boys' lacrosse squad will represent the Vineyard when Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletics Association tournament play begins later this week.

Boys' tennis is coming off back-to-back division three state championship titles, and enters the postseason with just one loss. The squad is 14-1, and received a number two seed in the division three south section bracket. They earned a bye in the first round and will play either Norwell or Sturgis Charter at home on June 2. Match time is at 3:30 p.m. at the newly christened Ned Fennessy tennis courts.

Last weekend, the Vineyard doubles team of junior Dunavon Belisle and freshman Zak Danz competed in the second week of the MIAA individual championships, but fell in the first round to number one seeds Justin McGaffigan and Charles Morris, of BC High.

The girls' tennis team, with an 8-8 record and number-15 seed, begins play against the team that has knocked the Vineyard out of the postseason for the past two years: Cohasset. Cohasset is seeded number two and anchored by individual state champ Emma Davis (who defeated Vineyard junior Samantha Potter last weekend en route to defending her individual title). The teams will meet at Cohasset on Thursday.

Boys' lacrosse also begins tournament play on Thursday, taking on number seven seed Old Rochester (13-5) in an away game. The Vineyard closed the regular season 10-8, and is the number 11 seed in the south section bracket.
