A sure sign of spring — last week I found the first tick in my hair! The dogs, cat and I are still getting settled in from our long sojourn in White Plains. So nice to see my Island friends again. As good luck would have it, I was called to sub on teacher appreciation day; I can’t tell you the wonderful food and beautiful flowers so many parents dropped off in the faculty room. Thanks to all!
Surprised as I was to wake and see gently falling snow on Wednesday morning, I must mention there is nothing more beautiful than seeing my favorite bird, the noble red cardinal, silhouetted against snowy branches. The same delight greeted me when I saw the red-headed woodpecker who is determined to gnaw on my house.
On Sunday morning, July 4, flags will go up at the Oak Grove Cemetery beginning at 7:30 a.m. Volunteers are needed to help with this patriotic task. The flags come down again at 3 p.m., and if you are not an early riser and want to help then, please come!
