After eight weeks of preparation, Island middle school students headed to the YMCA to perform trial runs of the underwater robots they had built themselves.

The Martha’s Vineyard Public Charter School celebrated its 19th graduating class in a ceremony today. Many of the graduates were barefoot, and all wore laurel crowns.

The Martha's Vineyard Public Charter School graduation is Sunday, June 2 at 1:30 p.m. on school grounds at 424 State Road in West Tisbury.

The Charter School performs the Hobbit this weekend, with kindergartners though high schoolers embodying dwarves, elves, walking trees and the wizard Gandalf. Performances are at the Grange Hall on Friday and Saturday.
