Scores of beachcombers fanned out across the shores of Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday, for the 32nd annual Earth Day beach cleanup event, coordinated by the Vineyard Conservation Society.

The 32nd annual Vineyard Conservation Society Earth Day beach clean-up takes place Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Monday is Earth Day, number 54 since it began in 1970, and so it is appropriate to push off from indoor activities and turn one’s eyes to dirt and grass, sky and sea.

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum was alive with activity Saturday afternoon as it hosted its first Earth Day Conservation Festival, a four-hour celebration of the Island’s natural environment.

Invest In Our Planet is the official theme for the 53rd annual celebration of Earth Day on April 22, and the Island’s conservation agencies, nonprofits and libraries are creating a diverse array of activities for Islanders to do just that.

Vineyard Conservation Society is hosting its 31st annual Earth Day Beach Clean-Up on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to noon.
