Gizmar DeSouza, 28, was arraigned Feb. 20 in Edgartown district court on charges on trafficking in a class B substance (cocaine) and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Police said he allegedly had 28 grams of cocaine in his possession.

Two Vineyard residents were arraigned on drug charges last week after a police investigation into the sale of prescription drugs.

Island police ended the summer with several drug arrests and investigations, including three men charged with drug trafficking and the discovery of 20 marijuana plants in Aquinnah.

As part of an ongoing prescription drugs investigation, members of the Martha’s Vineyard Task Force Tuesday arrested three men who allegedly came to the Island to sell prescription drugs.

A Vineyard Haven man was sentenced to at least three years in state prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to drug charges in Dukes County superior court.

Jeffrey T. Moore, 44, pleaded guilty to possessing to distribute a class A substance (heroin) and possessing to distribute a class B substance before Hon. Gary A. Nickerson, associate justice of the superior court. He was sentenced to three to three and a half years at Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction, a maximum security prison in Walpole. The sentence will start Sept. 4.

Oak Bluffs police have identified a 50-year-old Oak Bluffs man who was found dead in a Barnes Road residence Wednesday as James Christopher (Chris) Walker. The cause of death remains under investigation, police said. Mr. Walker's roommate has been charged with heroin trafficking.

In what was called a rare event on Martha’s Vineyard, an Idaho man was arrested Tuesday for possessing crystal methamphetamine.

Lance P. Ragsdale, 41, was arrested after Edgartown police and state police executed a search warrant for a Road to the Plains home, Edgartown Det. Sgt. Chris Dolby said.
