The Yard hosts a free, open performance from its choreographer in residence, Ana Isabel Keilson, on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the barn theatre on Middle Road near Beetlebung Corner in Chilmark.
At this year’s Massachusetts High School Drama Guild Festival the students in Kate Murray’s Theatre II class presented a new work, the brainchild of a creative collaboration between teacher and students. And this weekend, they are bringing it home, with several productions for the Vineyard audiences slated at the high school’s performing arts center.
A Fairy Ballet School by the Martha’s Vineyard School of Ballet will run from July 26 through August 6, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Tisbury School. All children finish with a performance in the annual Summer Fairy Ball.

The Summoning of Everyman, sometimes known simply as Everyman, is a play focused on morality and mortality within a Christian context that dates back to 15th century England, where it was penned by author/s unknown.
In Asking for It, a one-woman play written and performed this weekend at the Yard by Joanna Rush, young Bernadette O’Connell, former Outstanding Catholic of the Year, puts her religious vocation on hold and follows her fierce libido, but her sexual miseducation leaves her vulnerable to the twisted testosterone-filled world of her new life in the Big Apple.
The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School Drama Department will present Rent: School Edition, Feb. 11 to 13, at the Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center.
Show times are Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., with two shows on Saturday, 1 and 7 p.m.
Tickets are $7 for students and seniors and $10 for adults.
Nightmares and Dreams: Immigrant Voices is a short play written and performed by a group of Vineyard women, ranging in age from 15 to 50, from Latin American countries about their experience immigrating to America in general and Martha’s Vineyard in particular. This original work will be performed free for the public in the regional high school library next Friday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m., as the closing program of the spring session of Adult and Community Education of Martha’s Vineyard.
PigPen Theatre Company comes clean with Mountain Song, an original play about a carpenter trying to find his daughter’s wedding. It’s a revue for all ages, incorporating original music, custom-made puppets, and creative visual effects.
The Built on Stilts dance and performance festival is now accepting registrations for 2010. Application deadline is July 1.
