Tennis Battle Wages On

The girls' tennis team is locked in a semifinals showdown against Cohasset, as play continues well into the evening. The winner of the match advances to the finals of the MIAA Division 3 South Section tournament. As of 6:40 p.m., the score was tied 1-1 with three matches yet to finish.

Both doubles matches went to three sets and lasted over three and a half hours, with Julia Cooper and Annabelle Hackney winning 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 and Alyssa Adler and Dylan Brockmeyer falling in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 1-6.

Vineyarders Rack Up Wins All Around

As the second month of winter sports gets under way, all four regional high school varsity teams maintain their winning records, with boys’ basketball still undefeated. The boys play Bishop Feehan at home tomorrow at 3 p.m. Girls’ hockey will also be on home ice tomorrow, taking on Hanover/Cohasset at 12:30 p.m.

Students in Elaine Weintraub’s Irish history class at the regional high school took their studies outside on Monday, trying their hand at one of the oldest sports in the world, the Gaelic game of hurling.

The Nan Rheault Invitational tournament takes place this weekend at the MV Arena, spotlighting the girls’ hockey teams. Boys’ hockey and boys’ basketball also have home games.

Vineyard Teams Keep Winning As Regular Season Winds Down

Both varsity hockey teams play on home ice Saturday in a pair of league matchups, with the boys playing their last Eastern Athletic Conference game of the regular season. Be sure to support the girls’ basketball team during one (or all) of their three home games this week. The team plays at 4:30 p.m. today, Tuesday and Thursday.

It may not yet qualify as a dynasty, but the boys’ basketball team has clinched their third Eastern Athletic Conference title in as many years. The Vineyarders defeated Bishop Stang 61-47 Wednesday in the last league game of the season, finishing with a 7-1 record in the conference.
