Now that Labor Day has come and gone, Islanders are reclaiming Circuit avenue parking spots, swimming at Squibnocket and finally savoring the Menemsha sunset. Brad Tucker, front man for the Island band Ballyhoo, the sleeper hit of the summer music scene, is thrilled Vineyarders are taking back the Island. Mr. Tucker and his band mates have spent Sunday evenings since June playing free music down at the docks in Menemsha. The seasonal slowdown allows them to get back to what they really love doing — playing low-key music for their friends and family, the Islanders.

Harpists Break Out of Parlor For Foot-Stompin’ Celtic Show

Masters of the Celtic harp Gráinne Hambly and William Jackson will play a concert — and offer a music therapy workshop centered on the small harp — next weekend at the Katharine Cornell Theatre on Spring street in Vineyard Haven.

Both events are on Saturday, Sept. 29 — the concert is at 8 p.m. and Mr. Jackson’s workshop is at 4 p.m.

Vineyard Dance begins their fall classes on Monday, Oct. 1, at Nathan Mayhew Seminars on North William street in Vineyard Haven.

Classes for adults and teens are offered in modern dance, modern jazz, ballet and floorbarre.

Slow Train Coming Arrives Again at Playhouse

An encore performance of Maureen Hourihan’s trilogy of short plays, Slow Train Coming, preceded by Arlene Bodge reading selections from her writings about memory loss, should make for a special evening at the Vineyard Playhouse this weekend.

Ms. Hourihan’s theatrical tribute to her father, who had Alzheimer’s, is being performed ahead of the Vineyard’s annual Miles of Memories walk on Sunday, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Services of Cape Cod and the Islands.

Boston Pops Dazzles at Ocean Park in Evening Concert Under the Stars

The storm fencing had been circling Ocean Park for days. No Parking signs had seemed to breed in the seaside streets of Oak Bluffs. By Sunday, cops and volunteers in yellow T-shirts also appeared to have multiplied, and then came the music-lovers (at least for the day), by the thousands, bearing folding chairs and friends from out of town, kids and coolers jammed with sandwiches, gourmet salads and chilled bottles of Sauvingnon blanc.

Rock Octogenarians in the Spotlight

It’s a rock doc like you’ve never seen before: The average age of the singers is 81, and the group is a choir, not a clapped-out band of has-beens busting guitars on stage. The film Young at Heart follows the eponymous chorus from Northampton who belt out Sonic Youth and James Brown tunes, punk, pop, disco — even singing Dylan’s Forever Young at a penitentiary gig.

Bang the Drums Peacefully At Outerland With Entrain

Entrain’s Drums For Peace, a concert focusing on the theme of peace, love and unity, will be presented twice on Friday, Oct.3: first, an alcohol-free, all-ages show at 7 p.m., then an over-21 show at 10 p.m. Both shows are at Outerland at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport.

Entrain’s energetic percussion-driven sound will offer the audience an explosive two hours of drum ensemble pieces and rhythms from all over the world. The full band will also be playing tunes from their seven compact discs that contain this positive message.
