Funds for an emergency generator were cut from the Edgartown library budget early in the building process, but now school and library officials say one is needed. Selectmen will explore the idea.
On Monday, March 21, at 11 a.m. the new Edgartown Library will open its doors to the public. There will be an official opening ceremony later this summer, but as for Monday nothing special is planned beyond the usual coffee and baked goods for patrons.
About 100 people gathered at the historic Carnegie building, which lent its last book Friday evening, to symbolically begin the move to the new Edgartown Library near the town’s school.
On Friday patrons and staff said goodbye to an old friend as the last book was checked out at the old Edgartown Public Library on North Water street, ending the brick building's life as a library.
