Student Art Show

Every year the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association gives three scholarships as well as a week-long show at our Old Sculpin Gallery to student graduates from an Island high school who plan to continue their studies in the fine arts.

This year’s recipients are Lonnie Phillips, Maggie Howard and Naomi Scott. This show runs from June 19 to 26.

The opening reception is Sunday, June 20, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Europe Comes to Main Street, Vineyard Haven

In a first for her gallery, Louisa Gould this week opens a European show, European Subjects Painted by Island Artists. The public opening reception is on Saturday, June 19, free from 5 to 7 p.m. with live music and refreshments.

Food Magazine Celebrates Inaugural Year With Exhibit

This month, the Island’s premiere food magazine, Edible Vineyard, celebrates its one-year anniversary by teaming up with Featherstone Center for the Arts for an exhibition, titled The Art of Food. The show features work by over ten Island artists, ranging from photography to food-themed painted rocks by Cammie Naylor to Nina Carelli’s food-inspired etchings.

Brooklyn-based photographer and lifelong Chilmark summer resident Gabriela Herman will show her photography at the Chilmark Public Library from July 3 to 23. Titled From the Brickyard to Old Farm Road, the exhibit showcases primarily up-Island imagery that highlights an Island that has always been close to her heart.

An opening artist reception will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 3.

It’s Margot Datz’s World, You Just Love-In It

Margot Datz and her magical artwork return to the Grange Hall in West Tisbury Saturday, July 24, for one night only, from 4 to 8:30 p.m. This is her first show in three years, and was sparked by the release of her new book with author Patty Schaal, Nighttide on a Vineyard Farm, for Jan Pogue’s Vineyard Stories, the Island-based publishing house.
