Big crowds filled Ocean Park and lined the streets, the beach and fishing piers, as the annual Oak Bluffs pyrotechnic display got underway.

The festivities began with a concert in Ocean Park by the Vineyard Haven Band. Revelers of all ages marched around the bandstand with glow sticks in hand while the band played songs covering their 150th anniversary.

By 9 p.m. the first warning rocket took off and people found their places. After it was all over, it was agreed again, the best ever.

The fireworks were indeed spectacular! What surprised and touched me the most was driving by Ocean Park in the early afternoon and seeing very large numbers of empty beach chairs trustingly left all over in the area open for viewing. I thought to myself that this couldn't happen just anywhere. We were too busy to stake our claim to a spot until much nearer the time for the show to begin but even so had no problem. The very large congenial, happy crowd waited patiently and expectantly, and we were not disappointed. What a great show, setting, and shared experience!
