The first weekend of 2018 brought single-digit temperatures and a deep freeze settled over the Vineyard. Icicles dripped off ocean piers and rare “Slupee waves” were seen as icy, slushy water crashed ashore off East Chop. Frozen ponds were the place to be for ice skaters, hockey players, and ice fishermen.
