The Vineyard joined the rest of the country in celebration of the nation’s 247th birthday. There is something wonderfully unifying about Fourth of July on the Vineyard, about sentiments that make people a little more mindful of the values of community and family and friendship. Somehow the daily burdens of modern society seem remote, at least for awhile on an Island Independence Day.
