John T. (Jack) Kane of Rockaway and formerly of Hackensack, N.J., died on Tuesday, Oct. 19. He was 87.

Born in Yonkers, he lived in Hastings on Husdon, N.Y., and then Hackensack before moving to Rockaway 20 years ago. Jack also loved spending summers at his home on Martha’s Vineyard, where he had spent most of his childhood summers.

He was the athletic director and a teacher at Westwood Regional High School in Westwood until he retired 25 years ago. He loved coaching wrestling and was inducted into the Westwood Regional High School Hall Of Fame for his outstanding dedication to the sport and his athletes.

He put his family above everything and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carol; his daughter in law Celeste Kane; and his grandsons Benjamin and Matthew. He was predeceased by his son Robert in 2016.

A funeral mass was held at St. Elizabeth’s Church in Wyckoff on Oct. 25. Interment was at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.
