Daniel J. (DJ) Culkin of Franklin Lakes, N.J. and West Tisbury, died peacefully at his home on Jan. 22. He was 95.

Born in Mineola, N.Y., he had lived in Franklin Lakes since 1969. Dan proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Before retiring, he spent a 41-year career at AT&T, where he served as corporate vice president. He was a parishioner of the Most Blessed Sacrament RC Church in Franklin Lakes.

Dan loved to fish and sail his beloved Vineyard Vixen, Magic Time, and had been a longtime member and former commodore of the Holmes Hole Sailors in Vineyard Haven. The competitive sailing group took note of his death this week in an email to its members. Dan helped increased membership in the sailing group and promoted adding several women to positions on the board. His regular attendance at race events inspired the creation of the Culkin Cup, awarded to members with the best attendance record each year.

Dan was the beloved husband of Sarah (Sally) Culkin for 61 years; father of Elizabeth Mirabelli and her husband Mario of Chatham, Barbara Dugan and her husband John of Ramsey, Mark Culkin of Franklin Lakes, and the late Peter Culkin. He was the loving grandfather of John Dugan, Jr., Daniel Dugan, and Kate Mirabelli. He was predeceased by his brother Henry Culkin.

Services will be held privately at the Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home in Franklin Lakes.
