Nancy Ann Butler died in Wareham on April 12 after a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease.

Nancy was born in Watertown, N.Y. to the late Eugene and Dorothy Butler. She attended Watertown public schools and was a graduate of Canton (SUNY) Agricultural & Technical Institute where she was a member of Pi Nu Epsilon sorority. Her degree in home economics served her well, both as a homemaker and all around creative person.

While working for Hardware Mutual Insurance Co., she met and married Bruce K. Young of Syracuse, N.Y. Bruce was employed by IBM and they raised their three children in Endicott, N.Y.

She had many creative interests and inherited her father’s deep love of gardening and antiques. She become a qualified master gardener by taking classes at the Broome Cooperative Extension and ran her own small business of propagating and selling house plants, or offering plant installation and maintenance to local businesses.

Her home was always known for its lovely flower garden and an ample vegetable garden.

She was a loving and devoted mother.

She is survived by her daughter Sarah Young of Edgartown, and sons Ted Young of Middletown, N.Y. and Dan Young of Madison, N.Y. She was predeceased by her sister Carol and her college sweetheart and first husband, Thomas Terry Peckham.

Interment was in the Glenwood Cemetery in Watertown, N.Y. A celebration of life will be planned at a future date.
