Martha Wannamaker died at home in Edgartown on May 24, surrounded by family and friends. She was 73.

Martha was born Oct. 29, 1944 on Martha’s Vineyard. She was a passionate reader of literature, particularly Marcel Proust, an antiques collector, and an animal lover.

She will join her beloved husband, James Place, in the aldilà. She is survived by her children Julien and Lila, their spouses Laura and Paolo, her grandchildren Asher, Ariel, Ezrah, Chloe and Annabel Liv, her brothers Vincent Kent, Thomas Hayden, and William Grafton Wannamaker, her sister in law Ellen, her niece Arielle and nephews Zachary and Joseph, and her aunt Jean Hathaway.

She was predeceased by her dearly loved aunt Phyd Colman. She will be deeply missed.
