William (Bill) Joseph O’Leary Jr., died on Tuesday, April 3. He was 77.

He graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, N.Y. in 1958 and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester in 1962. He received his master’s degree from New York University.

His business career was with the Bell System, first with New York Telephone in New Rochelle, N.Y. and then to New York city on the operations staff. He transferred to AT&T Information Systems in 1983, where he was a general manager, global services until his retirement in 1996.

At that time, he and his wife, Dona, moved to Aiken, S.C., where they spent seven months each year and five months at their summer home in Dennis. He served on the board of the New Rochelle Chamber of Commerce and as president of the New Rochelle Kiwanis Club.

He had several loves: God, family, Holy Cross, friends and golf. His love of God included Mass and several ministries, including a eucharistic minister, an active member of the Mary, Mother of the Eucharistic Praesdium of the Legion of Mary and a Perpetual Adorer. He was also a knight (fouth degree) in the Knights of Columbus, Council 3684. He was class chair for the Holy Cross class of 1962 and served on the board of the Holy Cross Alumni Association. He loved his friends in Aiken, S.C. and Dennis, and his Holy Cross classmates. He was a member of the Men’s Golf Association at Woodside Plantation in Aiken as well as Dennis Pines/Highlands, where he played regularly.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Dona (Duarte), a Vineyard native. He is also survived by three sons, William J. O’Leary 2nd and his wife, Annette, of Black Hawk, Colo.; Jonathan P. O’Leary of Westminster, Colo., and Christopher M. O’Leary and his wife, Megan, of Lafayette, Colo.; and a grandson, Nicholas, of Lafayette, Colo.

He was predeceased by his father and stepmother, William and Virginia O’Leary and his biological mother, Evelyn, who died at childbirth.

A Requiem Mass will be held on Friday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at Old St. Mary’s Help of Christians Church at 203 Park Avenue SE, Aiken, S.C. A visitation will take place Thursday, April 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the George Funeral Home, 211 Park Ave SW, Aiken, S.C.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church in Brewster. Interment will be at the Oak Ridge Cemetery at Dennis.
