Shirley Hiersteiner Feldman died June 21 at Kendal on Hudson in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. She was 92.

She was born in Des Moines, Iowa to Harry and Bess (Cohen) Hiersteiner on May 24, 1924. Upon graduation she attended Smith College in Northampton. There she met and fell in love with Roger Feldman. They were married at the Smith College Chapel in June 1946.

Shirley and Roger settled in Newton, where they raised their children and Shirley was actively involved with the local PTAs. For many years, the family summered on Martha’s Vineyard, where she actively pursued her love of gardening and photography and was an active member of the Vineyard Conservation Society.

Shirley and Roger spent their winters in Key Biscayne, Fla., where they also loved to sail, swim, support the arts, and entertain.

She was a devoted wife and mother and is survived by her daughter Nancy Taxin and her husband David, her grandchildren Amy Bonilla and her husband Medardo and Michael Taxin and his wife Denise, and great granddaughters Raquel and Ilana. She is also survived by her loving sister in law Mimi Feldman Winer, brother in law Bertram Winer, and sister in law Jean Hiersteiner, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Roger in 1995, her son Michael in 1975, and daughter Judith in 2013, as well as her loving brothers Stanley and Walter, and Shirley Hiersteiner, Irma and Theodore Feldman, and Natalie and Lawrence Stellar.

Her family appreciates the love and devotion of many friends and extended family as well as the wonderful experiences and the quality of care at Kendal on Hudson.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to either The Michael Feldman Social Justice Day at the Cambridge School of Weston or Kendal on Hudson to further support her interests in tai chi, the library or the garden club.
