Cheryl Roedel Sudderth died unexpectedly from causes related to hypertensive heart disease on July 12.

She grew up in West Hartford, Conn., and lived most of her adult life in Owasso, Okla., with her husband Jerry Sudderth. Growing up, Cheryl spent her summers on the Vineyard with her family, and thereafter would vacation there during her favorite fall months.

Known as Rell to her close family and friends, she was a devoted Vineyarder. She spent her summers as a youth, adolescent and young woman in the Camp Ground. She loved Community Sings, Illumination Night with live candles, the Mooncusser and the Jim Kweskin Jug Band.

Cheryl devoted a good portion of her life immersed in the study of all things great and small. She had all the answers or knew where to find them. She was our private, family librarian. Her gardens were rich and rewarding. Her hand-sewn hats, a wonder to us all. She was a wonderful sage and never judgemental. We loved her dearly and will miss her infinitely.

Rell is survived by Jerry Sudderth, her devoted and adoring husband of 38 years; her two loving sisters, Nancy Krannich and Sandy Roedel; and her wonderful niece and nephews, Taylor and Kyle Krannich and Sam Baker.

A private interment at sea and celebration of her rich life will follow in the fall, the time that she loved best on the Vineyard. Donations may be sent to the East Chop Association, P.O. Box 1916, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557.
