Leigh Coleman Dunlap Ivison died on Sunday, August 10, in the loving embrace of her husband and their two sons. She was 60 and was a longtime East Chop summer resident.

Born to the late Frances Gebhart Dunlap and the late Leighton Coleman Dunlap Jr., Leigh grew up in New Castle, Del. She graduated from William Penn High School in 1972 and the University of Delaware in 1976. She was a competitive swimmer representing the university and Wilmington Aquatic Club. She was, at one time, the Delaware state champion in the 500 freestyle.

Leigh loved sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and was introduced to the Vineyard on her first date with her future husband in 1981. After that, she spent part of every summer on Martha’s Vineyard, where she played tennis at the East Chop Tennis Club and enjoyed hours of card games at the East Chop Beach Club with dear friends. Leigh cherished her time with her family, and she delighted in the company of her many friends at home in Pennsylvania. She was a lover of life and inspired all who knew her during her four year battle with pancreatic cancer.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years Sterling H. (Skip) Ivison; sons William Kent Ivison and Andrew Coleman Ivison; her sister Kaye Dunlap Wilder and husband George; her sister in law Kate Meleney and husband Ted, and her niece Eliza Fowle Ballin.

A memorial service will be held in July 2015 at Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs. Details will be communicated when they are set.

In lieu of flowers and to continue the fight against pancreatic cancer in memory of Leigh, donations can be made to the Johns Hopkins Cancer Research c/o Daniel Laheru, memo line: In memory of Leigh Ivison, mail to Dr. Daniel Laheru, Johns Hopkins University, 1650 Orleans street, CRB1 Rm 4M09, Baltimore, MD 21287.
