Mary Jardin Taylor died on May 6 in Gainesville, Fla. She was 87.

Mrs. Taylor was born on March 29, 1927 on Martha’s Vineyard to the late Antone and Flora Canha Jardin. She was a true Islander, living here for many years before moving to Boca Grande, Fla., later in life. She was married for 40 years to Glenn Taylor Sr., who preceded her in death in 2002. Mrs. Taylor loved the Lord, enjoyed spending time reading the Bible, and spent her life living as a reflection of that love. She loved her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren at the beach or playing board games.

She was survived by one daughter, Heidi (Donny) Garner, of Boca Grande; one son, Glenn “Junior” (Diane) Taylor, M.D., of Gainesville; two stepsons, Bruce (Peggy) Taylor of Las Vegas, and Sam (Bonnie) Taylor of Sandy Valley, Nev.; three sisters, Hilda Backus, Emily Scott and Flora Coutinho; three brothers, Manny Jardin, Tom Jardin and Frankie Jardin, all of Martha’s Vineyard, and 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 9 in the chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home with Pastors Ron Hyatt and George Brantley of The Rock of Gainesville officiating. Interment followed in Memorial Park West.
