Manuel Vincent Lima Jr. died after a brief illness early Thursday morning, Oct. 17 at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with his daughters at his side. He was 86.

Manny was born at home in Vineyard Haven on April 11, 1927, the son of Adeline DeJesus Frank and Manuel V. Lima.

Manny ran a successful landscaping business, which he purchased from Dick Mansfield. He was also a mason tender for Fred Thifault and helped his brother, Tony, as a greenskeeper at Mink Meadows Golf Club. Manny also worked for Bill McClure installing pre-fab houses.

Manny’s favorite hobbies were gardening, fishing, photography, coin collecting and making puzzles.

He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia L. Cappelli and her husband Anthony and Lisa L. Healy and her husband Jon; his son, Michael F. Lima and his wife Amy; and his sister, Virginia Oliveira and her husband Guy. Manny was predeceased by his sisters, Helen Ferro, Mary Barrett, Ida Machado and Esther Nichols, and by his brother Antone V. Lima.

According to Manny’s wishes, private services were held for the family on Monday, Oct. 21.
