Barbara Marie Look Lee of North Carolina died Saturday, Sept. 21 at home with her daughter Nancy and her family. She was 87.

Barbara was born on July 24, 1926 in Dukes County to Christopher Stetson and Agatha Look. She met and married William Kendall Lee on June 18, 1947 in Washington, D.C. They were married until his untimely death in 1991.

Barbara was the oldest of six children and is survived by Marjorie Look, Estey Teller and her husband Tommy, Leslie Carroll and her husband Bill, and Peter Look and his wife Phyllis. She is predeceased by her brother Christopher Stetson (Huck) Look and her sister Nancy McCormick.

She will be missed by many, especially by her children, Patricia Lee, William K. Lee and his wife Ginny, Nancy Halpin and her husband Bob, and Michael H. Lee and his wife Suzanne; grandchildren, Courtney Smith and her husband Jerry, Trevor Barnett and his wife Tammy, Ansley Parrish, Eric Lee, Ryan Lee, Carissa Hendrickson and her husband Brian, Phillip Halpin and his wife Michelle, Christopher Lee and his wife Michelle, and Mathew Lee; great-grandchildren, Brannon, Miley and Kynzie Smith, Evan and Carson Barnett, L.E. and Andon Lee, Andrew Halpin, and Georgeann and Lachlan Hendrickson.

She often reminisced about her high school basketball years and was an avid bridge player. While living in Virginia she devoted much of her time to hospice. As hospice coordinator, she was recognized for her countless hours of volunteer service to the community. She competed and won medals in the Senior Olympics regional and state games.

She will find her final rest when she returns to the waters of Edgartown, where her childhood memories abound and her siblings reside. One of her greatest pleasures was to swim at Bend in the Road, where she would run and jump into the waves without a thought, into water that would be way too cold for most.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
