Edward Southwick Child Was Longtime Islander

Edward Southwick Child of West Tisbury died at McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich on April 29. He was 91 and the husband of Barbara (Cottle) Child. Funeral services are being planned and will be announced with a full obituary in a future edition of the Gazette. Donations may be made in his memory to Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard: P.O. Box 2549, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557, or to the Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation: 57 David Avenue, Vineyard Haven, MA 02568. Arrangements are under the care of the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.

Barbara & sons, We just learned of Ed's passing; another of the Hancock sisters descendents is gone. We so enjoyed your visits over the years. Remember the pickup camper you traveled in across country? Please stay in touch. BTW, I used Dr Child's sister's memories of the Abolitionists visits at the Cornelia Hancock Weekend. Ed & his ancestors were amazing.
