Sara Jane Sylvia, lately of Boca Raton, Fla. and Vineyard Haven, died Feb. 14, lovingly supported by her son, William Binzen, and daughter in law Nancy. She was 87. She also leaves her granddaughter Naomi.

From interior decorating to antique collecting to gardening and landscaping, Sara Jane was known for her impeccable taste and eye for beauty. Her home on Hines Point, called Lily Hill, was a favorite stop on the annual Garden Tour and was a featured spread in two well-known coffee table books: Martha’s Vineyard and Gardens of Martha’s Vineyard. In further homage to her talents, the photograph of Lily Hill’s rolling lawn, background of exuberant tiger lilies and airy gazebo, which she designed, was chosen as the iconic cover of Martha’s Vineyard.

After a private service, Sara Jane will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Joseph H. Sylvia, on her beloved Island. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Boca Raton Historical Society, Town Hall, 71 North Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
