Elegant Swedish-born model and consummate New Yorker Kerstin Elise Andersson-Salk died Nov. 15 in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., where she lived with daughter Pia and son in law Peter Neidell. She was 80.

Kerstin summered with Herb Kiehn, her companion of 15 years, at their home on East Chop. Born in Boras, Sweden, Kerstin was previously married to the late Dr. Lee Salk, psychologist, author and brother of polio vaccine pioneer Dr. Jonas Salk. She lived on Central Park West, near her beloved Lincoln Center. Kerstin worked in the boutiques of couture fashion designers including Hanae Mori and Louis Feraud. Kerstin also dedicated her time to women’s rights issues.

She is survived by longtime partner Herb Kiehn, former mayor of Chatham, N.J.; son Eric and his wife Susanna; grandchildren Oliver and Winston; and daughter Pia and her husband Peter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the New York chapter of Swedish Women’s Educational Association (SWEA) or Church of Sweden New York.
