Jane L. (Austin) Crave of Provincetown died July 4 at Cape Cod Hospital following a brief illness. She was 79.

Born May 22, 1933 in the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Hilda (Mills) Tilton. Jane was the wife of the late John F. Crave Jr., who died in 2011. They were married for over 55 years.

She graduated from Tisbury High School class of 1950 and then went on to graduate from the Cape Cod Hospital Nursing School, where she became an LPN. She worked at Cape Cod Hospital and later at the Cape End Manor Nursing Home in Provincetown, currently Seashore Point. She retired about 15 years ago.

Her favorite form of entertainment was playing the game of Mahjongg with her friends, as well as playing an occasional game of bingo. For many years she was an active member of the Provincetown bowling league until it ended. She was a most devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox, her favorite team. She greatly enjoyed collecting statues of all types of elephants, a hobby and collection she had for many years.

She is survived by, among others, her son, James R. Crave, and his wife Jeanne of Edgartown; her stepchildren, John F. Crave III of Hyannis and Patricia A. Floyd of South Dennis; her stepgrandaughter, Apryl L. Sarkinen and her husband, Frederick, of South Dennis; Jeanne’s sons William A. Pate and his wife Mary-Beth, and Peter J. Pate and life partner Amanda, all of West Tisbury. She had nine great grandchildren: Brianna, Livy, Ellie and Liam Pate; Lexus and Alyssa Pate; and Emmalee and Maddie Maciel, all of West Tisbury, also Ashlee Sarkinen of South Dennis and several nieces and nephews and sisters in law. She was the sister of the late Bobby Austin, formerly of West Tisbury.

Visiting hours are Wednesday, July 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gately-McHoul Funeral Home, 94 Kemp Way, Provincetown. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 12, at 11 a.m. in the Provincetown United Methodist Church, 20 Shank Painter Road, followed by burial in the Provincetown town cemetery.
