Elvira Delany (Vera) Hart, 93, of Salisbury, Conn., died April 26, at Noble Horizons in Salisbury. She was 93.

She was the wife of the late Colonel Donald R. (Pete) Hart Jr. who died in 2011. Mr. and Mrs. Hart loved the Vineyard and the Hart family spent a great many months each year on the Island, at their houses in Chilmark and Vineyard Haven. They have many family and friends on the Island.

Mrs. Hart was born April 27, 1918, in Frenchtown, N.J., daughter of the late Frank and Julianna (Howarth) Wurum.

Mrs. Hart graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey. She lived in New York city for many years, where she worked as a writer and co-editor for Travel Weekly magazine, which afforded her the opportunity to travel the world. Locally, Vera lived for many years in West Cornwall, Conn., where she renovated the railroad station there into a very unique home. Later in life, Vera and her husband volunteered their time to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, traveling the country to assist in federal disaster areas.

Vera is survived by her many nieces and nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Col. Donald R. (Pete) Hart Jr., her two brothers, Robert and Frank Wurum, and sister Cynthia Swiatek.

A celebration of Vera’s life will be held on Wednesday May 2, at the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home, 118 Main street, North Canaan, CT 06018 from 1 to 4 p.m. Interment will take place on Thursday, May 3, at 12:30 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
