Sheryl Jaynes Andrews, daughter of the late Allen and Florine Jaynes, died on Apr. 12 in Nashville of lymphoma. She was 70.

Sheryl first saw the Vineyard on a day trip when she was 15. Thirty years later, as she moved to Boston to earn a PhD in Social Work at Boston College, she packed a set of boxes for moving to Martha’s Vineyard. She claimed the Vineyard as home for 15 years.

She was born March 15, 1942 in Nashville and lived there 50 years. Her four children and 13 grandchildren live in Tennessee. For nine years she brought the children as, they became old enough, to the Vineyard for the Cousin Camp experience.

Sheryl turned her domestic violence knowledge into what she considered her life work, establishing Financial Resources for Women & Children Inc. This organization addresses the financial needs of victims by partnering with other organizations, helping domestic violence victims regain financial independence and safety. FRWC has partnered with Women Empowered on the Island and organizations in Boston, Nashville, Ohio, and Rhode Island.

Sheryl lived every day with passion, intention, and dedication. She milked every experience for all the goodies it could offer. Throughout her life she rescued those needing rescuing and reached out a hand to those who needed one.

She loved life and this Island and the life she lived here.

Sheryl is survived by her son, Hal Andrews, and wife Stacey; daughters, Julie Knestrick and husband Jim; Kelly Andrews and husband Kurt; Booth Kammann and husband Kurt; and 13 grandchildren.

With deep gratitude to Drs. Ian Flinn, John Greer, Anderson Spickard 3rd and Stokes Peebles.

FRWC is establishing a memorial fund in Sheryl’s name to further the work she started. Donations can be made to FRWC, c/o PPUF, Old South Church, 645 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02116.

A celebration of her life will be held on the Island in the summer.
