Robert G. Ford, 78, of Oak Bluffs, died peacefully on March 31.

Bob had been a long-time resident of Oak Bluffs, and served on many committees and boards, among them the Community Solar Greenhouse, Oak Bluffs Library, Oak Bluffs conservation commission, and the Oak Bluffs Council on Aging. He was passionate about life, particularly conservation of the Island and preservation of nature. He was a tireless advocate for the Oak Bluffs Library and took great pride and interest in his eclectic book collection.

Bob was well known to his family and friends by his signature attire — a railroad cap, shorts, and Tevas, worn in all seasons.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Judy Ford, his sister, Susan Tarantino, a son, Owen Ford, and numerous extended family members.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in honor of Bob may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the care of the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home in Oak Bluffs.
