Juliet Armstrong Zietlow Summered at East Chop

Juliet Armstrong Zietlow of Stamford, Conn., died on Feb. 7 of complications following surgery.

Julie loved Martha's Vineyard in so many ways. She came to the Vineyard every summer since 1952 with her parents and two sisters, first to the Lagoon and then to East Chop in different houses. Recently, she and her sister became owners of their family's house on East Chop, and she was looking forward to spending more time there this summer.

Two years ago Julie threw a big party for her friends, celebrating her 60th birthday at the East Chop Beach Club. She attended Grace Church in Vineyard Haven.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., she lived in Stamford, where she was director of development and communications for St. John's Episcopal Church at the time of her death. She was a graduate of the Buffalo Seminary and Wheaton College. After college she worked for John Edsall at Harvard University and was a manager at IBM for more than 25 years. She earned a master's degree in fine arts from Union Theological Seminary in New York.

She was a gregarious person and had a big, hearty laugh. She kept friends from all times in her life.

Julie was predeceased by her mother, Frances, and sister, Dede. Her father, Jack, continues to visit East Chop every summer, and dories that he built are in the harbors here. She is also survived by a sister and brother in law, Marchy and John Bowden, and their children, Matthew and Hannah.
