Frances Hintsa, Age 77, Summered at East Chop

Frances B. Hintsa, age 77, of Newton, died in Boston on March 11.

She worked at Massachusetts General Hospital, as a teacher in the Boston public schools and as a graphic designer at Boston University and Cahners Publishing. She was treasurer of the New England chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society, and was president of the Gardeners and Florists Club of Boston. She was a longtime seasonal resident of East Chop, and had been visiting the Vineyard since the 1940s.

She is survived by a son, Eric J. Hintsa; a daughter in law, Wei Wang, and a grandson, Evan S. Hintsa, all of Falmouth, as well as cousins and other relatives.

A celebration of her life will be held in April; contributions in her memory may be sent to the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
